Just A Little Advice For Mothers With Daughters

This post has nothing to do with photos, just a random thought I want to share with you all.

Are You Raising A Confident Daughter?

Having two daughters of my own, I often wonder how Isaac and I are doing with Self Esteem issues with Taylor and Tally. Believe me if your girls are still small and its not really been an issue yet, get ready because EVENTUALLY it will be. The world is just plain ruff on our girls.Everything from Super Models to Sports Illustrated bunnies grace the covers of magazines everywhere. Tally asked one day why all the people on magazine's look so perfect? I explained to her that its sorta like when Mom gets on her computer and photo shops out the flaws in pictures, that's what happens with the magazines. Nobody is perfect we all thankfully have flaws no matter what people "want" to think about themselves. This is the pure reason that Isaac and I years ago agreed that we would never subscribe to magazines that might make our girls feel bad about themselves. We hear people say its the pressure from guys... I tend to disagree and feel the MOST critical people are other girls? It's so hard for kids now days to keep up with "society's" view of beauty. Its down right harsh and couldn't be further from the truth.
I struggle daily trying with the example I set, the things I say and do in front of my own daughters. The clothes that I wear, only hoping that I'm sending healthy messages. If your a Mom you know that they are constantly watching us for guidance and wisdom. Thus far I feel both of our girls are on track and both in their own way are good confident kids. A good example being that the other day was "Super Hero Day" at Taylor's school(keep in mind shes now in middle school) Anyway, we get there and she is the only one dressed up. Isaac asked her before we left if she were the only one dressed up what are you going to do? Of course being Taylor she said "I'm going in!" That she did, all 75 pounds dressed up in her Red Power Ranger suite from when she was 6. Tally's the same way, she's a little quieter but fearless! I love that my girls are this way and hope that it remains throughout their lives. My sister in law Liz told me something before Taylor was born, she said "don't ever tell your girls their beautiful before you tell them how smart they are." This is SOOO true, My other sister in law Lori inspired us years ago with "Never say the F word in your house" (in this case the F word is the word fat) I'm so thankful for the strong women in my life that have had experience before me and shared them to help where they can. I love you ladies and think the world of you!

This post is just a reminder for all us Mom's of daughters. Especially the ones with little girls, you may think you know it all now but believe me you don't, before you know it your girls will be in Grade School and with a blink of an eye in Junior High. Start when your daughters are small, don't let time and the world give them a chance to feel less than who they are and who you know them to be. I'm so thankful for my daughters and what good strong girls they are. I love them with all my heart!

From one Mom to another here's to years of building self loving confident daughters!

Friends

It's so fun to see my kids play and have a wonderful time with their friends. Today Taylor's friend Antonia came over and spent the day with us. Antonia is such a great kid. Taylor, and she are two little peas in a pod, they are so much alike that I have to stand back and giggle a little. Both incredible students, hard workers and wonderfully delightful girls. It's so much fun to see your kids grow and mature into wonderful little people isn't it? Tally even got in on the fun with her friend Rox (Roxy's a doggy) Hey a friend is a friend no matter what shape or form. So here's to great friends past, present and future. Without you life would be pretty dull.

Sick or Faker?

Scott's been getting his own little bit of attention lately. Today we had a super rainy cold morning and he "felt sick." Of course every mother knows if her child is ACTUALLY sick or "sick". I had to laugh because earlier I had caught him sneaking a cookie from the pantry and then as fast as he could he ran back up to his room.......... Needless to say, I could see that sometimes we forget that our kids need a break too. We all take our sick days from work (sometimes maybe for real and sometimes maybe not so real) So today me and my Buddy took some time just the two of us!

This was before I told him it was ok he could stay home and didn't need to pretend he was sick. (such a good actor)

Le Chapeau

The hat........... New Years goals always seem to start off with a bang. This year I wanted to learn something totally new and creative so my goal was to knit a hat. It seems everywhere I look I see these cute little knitted creations. I wanted make something totally similar but mix it up a bit with my own style. Since we live in HOTLAND most of the year I decided to turn the ordinary beanie into more of a spring look.(this also could be because I have Nooooo idea how to knit in the round) Of course everyone I know that knits is in MESA, I had only the Internet to turn to. Keep in mind I have never picked up a knitting needle in my life so this was all new to me. I can't tell you how many hours I spent in front of YouTube videos at night after the kids went to bed! It took me forever to learn how to hold the darn needles I was ready to turn them in and use them for a hair accessory. Just doing a dang slip not was killing me. Needless to say I stuck to my goal and figured it out and finished my first hat!(quite possibly my last)

VoilĂ  Le Chapeau~

Part Two Of Our 2009 Christmas Shoot

Here are the final pictures for our 2009 Christmas shoot that I did with the kids. This year Scott actually LET me take some of just him. He usually doesn't allow it so I took full advantage of my 8 year old son just as he is (Colts hat and all) Of course the girls didn't have a problem posing and having a little fun. Hope you all enjoy the Niu kids!

Our Lady Of The Sierra's.

Yesterday I took a little field trip to a couple of locations around town that I absolutely love the architecture of. Ever since I was a kid I have always found church structures to be fascinating. I remember years ago going to mass with my Grandma and being in awe of the building. Those of you that have been to Etna California know exactly which church I'm talking about. Even though these buildings are not my religion I still have a great appreciation and respect for these amazing structures and the people around them. My absolute favorite is "Our Lady Of The Sierra's" It reminds me of when I was in Scotland the way the old castles were built way up on the hill made of solid stone.

There is a small hike up to the church. It's not uncommon to find people along the way praying for loved ones that have passed.

Here you have one of the entrances to the tiny chapel. No matter how many times I come to this place I still can't believe how pretty it is!

Sooooo I cant even begin to tell you how BIG this is. I'm going to say maybe 30ft in the air. I have no idea. I just know its very visible when your driving towards Palominas/Bisbee. Whoa!

On my way back I stopped by an old Church Isaac and I used to like to drive by on our way to our church Sunday mornings. I arrived just as the bells were ringing, I think church may have been in session so I quickly snapped a shot of the entrance. I love these doors.
